Gite near the Dordogne

This summer while staying at our Gite in Gers we decided to travel to the Dordogne area, which was the location of the first Gite we stopped at in France back in 1980! After that we have stopped in dozens of different Gites in many different regions before choosing to buy our own in our favourite region of Gascony in the Gers; have a lookGers attractions.

River Dordogne
Beautiful Dordogne Scenery
Its a long (over 3 hour) drive up to the Dordogne area from the Gite near Riscle, but it covers some beautiful scenery through the best vineyards and wine regions in France. The drive takes you through Nogaro, Eauze and Marmande before arriving at Bergerac. Then from Bergerac we drove along the Dordogne to Trémolat the location of our first Gite holiday. We then carried on following the river to Le Bugue and Les Eyzies, the location of the famous caves or grottes in french.
Sarlat
Sarlat la Caneda
We finished our day with a shopping trip to Sarlat la Caneda the regional capital of the Dordogne region. Sarlat is a beautiful town full of character and with hundreds of shops, cafes, bars and restaurants has something to please everyone. Sarlat is well worth a visit, I just wish it wasn’t such a long drive back to the Gite in the Gers.
